Thrombin Time

Justification

Coagulation assay for the assessment of fibrin formation. Thrombin time may be prolonged due to afibrinogenemia, hypofibrinogenemia, dysfibrinogenemia, or the presence of heparin and direct thrombin inhibitors. Heparin contamination can be ruled out by adding protamine sulfate if thrombin time is prolonged.
